So, are you ready for July 2020?
I am asking this because I have seen more than a few memes that, at first glance are really funny, but at second glance have one message: 2020 has been a shitty year, it will probably get worse, we don’t have any control over our circumstances, etc.
Don’t get me wrong. This year has had way more than a few shitty times. Most everyone’s world has been turned upside down. The fear wants us to buckle up and stay on this ride.
I always come back to – how do I have compassion and community with so many hurting, and how do I (at the same time) stay my course. Knowing that as I care for myself and serve so many who serve others, I am at risk of standing still. Of being overwhelmed.
And then, there is this guilt. That, when so many people are hurting, how can I move forward? Shouldn’t I wait there with them? Do you ask yourself these questions too?
To me, it is what I have been talking about for a long time. If you can’t breathe, you can’t help. You can’t show up. If I am not taking exquisite care of myself – which some days I don’t- then I can’t be there for my family, my coaching clients, my peeps.
The best way we can have impact is to live our own purpose. And to do so without waiting for permission or apologizing for all the goodness.
And there isn’t a magical time to start. The truth is….. you don’t have to wait until you are 40 to live unapologetically. And, if you are past 40 you don’t have to “just deal with it”. At any age we can decide.
And, for most of us it isn’t about overnight success, waking up to 100% freedom, or wowing everyone by how well we are doing.
